see how the tree blooms!

today i went with 3 other unit members to the botanical gardens to see this tree in bloom. wahaha... all of us suddenly got the "雅性" (refined desire) to connect with nature?

actually its because this tree (the illawarra flame tree aka Brachychiton acerifolius) hasn't bloomed in the past 10 years it was in the botanical gardens due to singapore's wetter weather, so when it bloomed it became news in singapore. a sister read about it and wanted to see and photograph it, so we tagged along.

the area around the tree already had lots of blossoms, so we picked some up to photograph them. my handphone camera isn't great, so it looks very blurry. but as you see, the blossoms are very small... and the whole tree is covered with it!

i'm not someone who appreciates cut flowers in a bouquet because they last only for a very short time. the flowers of this illawarra tree started falling the next day after it bloomed! i'm always reminded of what Jesus said when i see this happening...

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:28-34
