the number you've just called is currently unvailable. please, try again later.

today's cartoon in the papers described perfectly well what i do to God sometimes.

wait ah... a bit busy now.

i went to the intercessor's ministry this week for the first time in years. i re-learnt something from them - first, that we're sons and daughters of God, who is our Father. Jesus is our brother and we are co-heirs with him.

since God is our Father (he is unlike our earthly fathers), He longs to speak to us. we should be expecting to hear from him -- and it doesn't take a leader or an intercessor to hear from God, since before God there are no leaders or members.

as long as we are children of God, we should expect to hear from Him, 'cos in Romans 8:13-14 it says: "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." (emphasis mine.)

how can we be led by the Spirit of God if we don't hear from Him?

but He has given us a way to be led by Him - His Spirit can and does speak to us. 2 cor 2:9-12 says:

"However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him" — but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us."
(again, emphasis mine.)

since the Holy Spirit speaks to us, all that remains is whether we hear from Him. and one major hindrance for me to listen to God is busyness and kancheong-ness. usually i schedule a retreat to slow down. but i think listening to Him should be more than that - we have to cultivate a sensitive ear by having an awareness that He longs to speak to us.

now that i'm shedding off some of my ministry roles, i intend to take time to quieten down to listen to Him.
